in a barren garden
- Deborah P Kolodji
This poem was written for the March 1, 2015 NaHaiWriMo prompt "oasis." It was inspired by a ginko walk at the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes, California with the Southern California Haiku Study Group.
The garden itself is not barren, but most of the cherry trees in the Sakura Meadow haven't started to bloom. Yet, there was this one cherry tree, near the amphitheatre that was gloriously blooming and inspired haiku from all of us.
I managed to write a poem for each of the February NaHaiWriMo prompts which meant that I ended up writing 109 haiku in February, a new record for me. So, I'm going to try to write to the March prompts, too, and see how it goes!
