Haiku and Art

Haiku and other short forms of poetry are natural partners for art. Being non-artistic with a brush, pencil, or pen, I'm continually amazed at some of the haiga some of my haiku friends create online.

I'm thrilled to announce that two of my haiku are online in the Winter issue of Haigaonline where they were translated into Japanese by Hiromi Inoue and are accompanied by a painting by Mary Rodning and original bamboo flute compositions by Choshi, both of which were specifically designed to capture elements of my haiku. The Japanese calligraphy was done by Shishen and the finished haiga by Jasminka.

Here are the links to these collaborative works of art:

(You will need the Macromedia Flash Player to hear the flute music).

I was excited when Linda Papanicolaou approached me about doing these collaborative works and am even more delighted now that I can see the finished products, collaborations of art, music, and poetry.

In my opinion, the entire issue of Haigaonline is well worth some of your valuable online browsing time.
