But I will say that Marge stepped in to be S*L editor again after no one else would do it. This was in the Scott Green era, before the Mike Allen administration and before mine. She has proved herself again and again to be a person who can be counted on to come through when no one else would. I don't think she wants to do it forever, nor do I want to be president forever, nor Sam treasurer.
So, if you've got a hankering to run for president of the SFPA in 2011, it is not too early to think about it. And, if you have any interest in any of the officer or appointed positions, by all means let me know about it! Just because the position is filled now, doesn't mean it will always be.
There is much to do. I have lots of dreams for the organization, but unfortunately I can only handle a few projects at a time. (Mike Allen (time_shark) seemed shocked tonight on the phone when I said I couldn't solve the problems of the universe by myself - lol)
Truthfully, I am glad that people are interested in the SFPA's future and are energized enough to post about it. At the moment, my focus is making the SFPA a non-profit, so it's not that I'm ignoring these other issues, it's just that they are currently of less importance to me. Should we be the SFPA or the SPA or the SPO or the SFFPA or the ASP? At this point, I just want the above referenced that-which-cannot-be-named organization to be a non-profit. I want the organization to be able to apply for grant money to promote speculative poetry of all varieties and accept charitable donations. I want to take steps to ensure its future.
Fortunately, Jules (seajules) and Deborah F. have stepped up to the plate and are going to start seeing what we can do to make this happen. I will meet with them after I return from Canada and am totally thrilled that they've agreed to help.
Speaking of Canada, this brings me to the fact that my second focus at the moment is making it to Canada, where I'm attending both Haiku North America and WorldCon. If you're going to either, please let me know, so I can meet up with you there.
Finally, it looks like Samantha Henderson (samhenderson) is talking about organizing a Speculative Poetry Con.....which sounds like it could be way too much fun, so I hope it actually becomes a reality.
