Egrets Reading

Some recently published haiku

It's been a while since I've been able to keep up a blog.   I've been allowing my twitter account to feed the blog in the hope that those posts keep the blog alive in the sense that I'm actually posting things.

I admit I'm not thrilled with the format of those twitter posts.   Sometimes, I've been fixing them, but even that takes a few minutes of time that I haven't had much of lately.

All that said, I just thought I'd update my friends with some news of recently published haiku:

There's a haiku in the Heron's Nest, June 2013 issue, page 8: http://theheronsnest.com/page%208=132.html.  This one was part of a haiku riff I did back in February on Yosemite-inspired haiku.    I also had a haiku in the March 2013 issue, page 11: http://theheronsnest.com/page11=131.html

There are also two in the newest issue of a Hundred Gourds, the first is part of an experiment I've been doing, writing haiku based upon western literary references, songs or other cultural references (like the "Lincoln logs" in my March 2013 Heron's nest haiku.  The first one in a Hundred Gourds, on page 3, is after the Barbra Streisand song (also the theme of my high school prom on the Queen Mary): http://www.ahundredgourds.com/ahg23/haiku03.html.  The second one is part of my ongoing fascination with the ocean: http://www.ahundredgourds.com/ahg23/haiku11.html

A NaHaiWriMo haiku from a few months past ended up in Mariposa, the journal of the Haiku Poets of Northern California.   Mariposa is a membership journal, you do not have to live in Northern California to belong to HPNC, and I find the twice/yearly publication of Mariposa to be more than worth the annual membership fee of $15.

Finally, there's a new online haiku journal, Kernels, edited by an'ya and PeterB, who once upon a time, gave us Moonset. I have two haiku in the inaugural issue.   http://kernelsonline.com/HAIKUpage.html.   The deadline for the second issue is July 1st.
