Egrets Reading

Outdoor Week at NaHaiWriMo

The second week of NaHaiWriMo 2013 has been Outdoor Week. All of Michael Dylan Welch's prompts revolved around the outdoors. Due to fond memories of family vacations and Boy Scout trips in the High Sierras, I decided to up the ante for my own poems and write exclusively about Yosemite National Park, one of my favorite places on the earth.

February 8: hike

the stone steps
to Vernal Falls
rainbows

February 9: glacier

deep summer
losing her boot sole on the hike
from Glacier Point

February 10: garden

red-winged blackbird
on my garden fence
photos of Yosemite

February 11: the woods

blue Sierra sky
my whole family
in the Telescope tree

February 12: river

inner tubes
on the Merced River…
moms on the shore

February 13: shade tree

deep shade
in the sequoia grove
a thin ray of light

our son harbored
in a baby backpack
