Egrets Reading

Food Week at NaHaiWriMo

The first week of NaHaiWriMo (National Haiku Writing Month) is over and I managed to write a haiku for each prompt.

The idea is to write a haiku a day, the shortest poem for the shortest month, February. Michael Dylan Welch is the prompter and he's posting the prompts in a note at the NaHaiWriMo Facebook Page. There is also a Twitter Feed (#nahaiwrimo).

The first week was "Food Week." Here are the prompts and what I did with them:

Feb 1st: Pasta

another late night
at the office
pasta al forno

Feb 2nd: Egg

country omelet…
that day I chased the dog
through my uncle’s hen house

Feb 3rd: Cheese

he grins at me
from an old photograph
Wisconsin cheese

Feb 4th: Spice or Spices

old arguments...
the purple-edged leaves
of thai basil

Feb 5th: Vegetable

don't let him
get your goat cheese
beet salad

Feb 6th: Rice

wild mushroom risotto
the place that isn't a place
yet

Feb 7th: Milk

first light
through the kitchen window
our milk mustaches
