Egrets Reading

86th Birthday

It’s cold this morning but warmer than Wisconsin. Warmer than the freshly dug earth, the damp grass, the rows of grave markers.

It’s your birthday and I want to sing something silly to hear your laugh again. I want to wrap up a crazy tie and a short sleeved shirt. A Josh Groban CD.

And we need a cake. A chocolate cherry cake with black cherry ice cream on Mom’s good china.

But...

it’s early.

The sun isn’t up yet. I think it’s going to rain.

no stars tonight
did you blow out all
your candles?
