My Weekend Poetry Schedule

It’s raining in L.A. and the snow level in the local mountains will drop lower and lower as the temperature continues to plummet. I should curl up with a good book in front of a warm fire, but there’s poetry out there this weekend!

On Saturday, I will be on two poetry panels at ConDor, a Science Fiction Convention in San Diego at the Town and Country, 500 Hotel Circle North. There will be a workshop at 4 p.m. in the Fairfield Room and a poetry reading at 5 p.m. Joining me will be Samantha Henderson, Marcy Rockwell, Deborah Flores, and Denise Dumars.

Terrie Relf, Kendall Evans, and Sheila Finch are also expected. Howard Hendrix was planning to come, but he is snowed in up at Shaver Lake. The theme for the con is “Putting the Science back in Fiction,” so I am expecting a lot of great science-themed poetry!

On Sunday, I’m going to head back to Los Angeles in time to catch fellow SFPA member Jeannine Hall Gailey at Beyond Baroque at 7:30 p.m. The program is called “Fangirls: Poetry, Comics, and Kick Ass Women”. Jeannine, author of “Becoming the Villainess” is a featured reader along with Consuelo Flores, Ramona Pilar Gonzales, and Angela Brommel. They will read poetry, fiction, and nonfiction focused on comics and superheroes from the female perspective. Admission is $7, $5 for students, and free for members. Beyond Baroque is located at 681 Venice Boulevard.

Then, lest you think the poetry stops when the weekend ends, on Monday, I’m going to hear former US Poet Laureate Billy Collins read at USC at 7:30 p.m.
