Am I the only person in LA who likes to go to the theatre? Sometimes it feels that way.

(Except, of course, at the Pantages).

Anyway, yesterday I used a friend's season tickets to the Pasadena Playhouse to see Of Mice and Men. The play was really good, very true to Steinbeck and I particularly liked the actors who played Lennie and Crooks.

But there were a disturbing number of empty seats in the theatre.

Last weekend, I saw the Porters of Hellsgate production of Much Ado About Nothing. There were only 12 people in the audience! This was particularly sad because I thought the actress who played Beatrice did so brilliantly, and Beatrice is one of my favorite female characters in a Shakespearean comedy.

But, then it was in one of these little hole-in-the-wall NoHo district venues that couldn't hold more than 45 or so at the max.
