Pacific Asia Museum, Japanese Gallery
On Sunday, the Southern California Haiku Study Group had a haiku anthology reading and signing for the 2007 anthology, Rattle of Bamboo in the Japanese Gallery of the Pacific Asia Museum.
Thirteen of the twenty-four poets included in the anthology were present to read: Tom Bilicke, Tom Conroy, D’Ellen, Linda Galloway, gK, Nardin Gottfried, Peggy Hehman-Smith, Gloria Jaguden, Anne Jones, Deborah P Kolodji, Janis Lukstein, Kath Wilson, and Wendy Wright.
kathleenwilson and her husband, Rick Wilson, brought various Asian flutes and
percussion instruments, performing short flute pieces before and after the
reading, and one as an interlude during a half-way point. Short percussion
notes were played between readers. Rick played flute and Kath played percussion.
The instruments included Japanese and Chinese flutes (shinobue, dizi, and ryuteki) as well as various Asian percussion instruments including a small Japanese frame drum, a Chinese temple bell, and a kokiriko.
We had a turn-out of 38 people and the museum seems pleased with the sales in the museum store, both of our anthology and other merchandise. It was a wonderful, wonderful way to end a weekend filled with poetry.
