Song of the San Joaquin looking for poems

Cleo Griffith, the Editorial Board Chair for Song of the San Joaquin is looking for submissions for the summer issue. The postmark deadline is June 15, 2007. Contributors will receive one copy of the publication in which their work appears. They are also invited to read at a reading when the issue is launched. This reading occurs in Modesto, so it may not be practical for those who do not live in the area.

Up to 5 poems or pieces of art may be submitted per issue. The poems should have something to do with life in California’s Central Valley, specifically the San Joaquin Valley. Specific geography need not be mentioned in the work but should somehow convey the characteristics of the area and the people who live there.

I don’t live in the Central Valley, but they once published a poem about my grandmother and quilts. They also published a tanka I wrote about posole, a Mexican soup, and a short poem about a Fourth of July parade.
