Egrets Reading

The Shantytown Anomaly

My contributor's copy of The Shantytown Anomaly has arrived.

This is the first annual "collaboration issue" where every poem is written by a minimum of two people. Even the scifaiku corner contains collaborations - instead of individual scifaiku, there are two rengay - one by Ann K Schwader and myself called "The Barrens in Virgo" and one by scifaiku pals ushi and oino sakai called "Out Spacewalking Today."

"The View from Here" a science fiction renku co-written with ushi, oino sakai, Mary Margaret Serpento, Teri Santitoro, Charles Lucien, and Lucinda Borkenhagen is also included. We were ambitious with "The View from Here," creating four seasonal categories that would work as "seasons" even if away from a planet in space. Then, we followed the seasonal rules of renku, had "blossom," "love," and "moon" verses and a nod to classical liturature, The Lensman series by E.E. Smith).

"Heirloom," a non-haikai collaborative poem co-authored with Karen A. Romanko, Marge Simon, Jennifer Crow, Wendy Rathbone, Scott H. Urban, Chris Ambrose, Jacie Ragan, and David C. Kopaska-Merkel is also in this issue.

There are also a half a dozen poems co-written by Kendall Evans...ok, I'm exaggerating, there are three.

J. Bruce Fuller has decided to make this an annual event, so there's no better time to start. Square up with a writing partner or two or three or...and write a collaborative poem or two!
