Egrets Reading

A Speculative Poetry Weekend....

If you like to experience speculative poetry live, this is your weekend!

If you live near Los Angeles, San Francisco, Madison, Orlando, or Baltimore, there is a speculative poetry workshop or reading in your area!

First, close to home - The Southland Poets of the Fantastic is having a speculative poetry workshop at the Getty Center with a potluck dinner afterwards at Greg Stewart's house. Either meet us at Greg's at 12:30 to carpool or at The Getty tram at 1:00. If you don't know where Greg lives, e-mail me at my aol e-mail address.

The other speculative poetry events are associated with conventions:

At BayCon 2007 in San Mateo, Kevin Andrew Murphy and Mark Kreighbaum will be reading science fiction and fantasy poetry at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

At WisCon 31 in Madison, WI, Rebecca Marjesdatter and Elise Anna Mattesen will be doing a "Lady Poetesses from Hell" reading on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. I've also heard rumors about haiku earrings?

At Oasis 20 in Orlando, FL, there's a "who's who" list of poets for the Sunday 11:00 "Science Fiction Poetry Readings and Discussion Panel" - Chris Ambrose, Michael Bishop, Bruce Boston, Carolyn Clink, Malcolm Deeley, Joe Haldeman, and Marge Simon.

At Balticon 41, there's a poetry workshop and reading from noon to 3 pm on Sunday, including the reading of the Balticon Science Fiction Poetry Contest winners.

The Science Fiction Poetry Association has a webpage devoted to these types of events:

If you know of one that isn't listed, please contact Liz Bennefeld with the details at sfpoetry@quietspaces.net. There is no charge to list a speculative poetry event on the SFPA website events page.
