Egrets Reading

Naming Things

The California Native Plant Society hosts monthly plant walks at Eaton Canyon, a short drive from my house. What I love about Eaton Canyon is that you never actually leave the city when you drive there – there are no twisty mountain roads to navigate, but once you drive into the parking lot, the wild side of Los Angeles County greets you.

This morning, I joined the plant walk as part of my new year’s resolution to learn the names of things….birds, butterflies, plants, trees, stars…so I can write poems about “golden currant blossoms” instead of poems about “little yellow flowers.”

In the afternoon, I went to the Poetic Souls poetry reading where I was joined by samhenderson where we worked on battle plans for bringing more local speculative poetry events to L.A.

If anyone has any ideas as to what we should call a local speculative poetry group, please let me know.
