Egrets Reading

Mummies

Yesterday, I finally made it out to the Mummies Exhibit at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.

I ran out of time which meant that the gift shop closed before I exited the exhibit. This is probably a good thing! I have an extreme bookshelf shortage problem in my house as it is.

I was inspired to write:

at the museum
a papyrus drawing
of Osiris --
heavier than a feather,
my heart, alone

Now this sounds much more melancholy than I really was, so no one needs to worry about me. I was meeting some relatives for dinner and had a few extra hours to kill with the mummies (pardon the pun). I actually had a blast so it's somewhat amazing to come up with such a profoundly sad poem during what was, in fact, a quite pleasant afternoon exploring these visiting treasures from the British Museum.
