Egrets Reading

At the end of the tunnel

When I drive west on the Santa Monica Freeway (I-10) and approach the McClure Tunnel at the end of it, I always feel a little tingle of anticipation and roll my window down.

After driving through the sometimes impossible maze of LA traffic, I know I'm about to see magic. The traffic curves into the tunnel and suddenly I see and smell....

It's like opening a door to a new world as the city fades away, forgotten behind. This is when I want a convertible.

The cave at Leo Carrillo State Beach is no less magic. There's something about standing in this cave and looking out at the ocean that always reawakens the child in me.
