Egrets Reading

Meeting faces behind words

One of the things I enjoy the most about the internet is the sense of community experience with poets all over the country and, in some cases, the world. It's odd to think that I have friends from far flung places that I've never met.

Ever so often the opportunity arises to actually meet some of these poet friends face to face. Today was one of those days.

Gary Blankenship, the editor of Mindfire Renewed and who hails from Bremerton, Washington, is in town for a poetry reading Monday night. He suggested that I meet up with him and a few other poets for lunch & so we did. Lois Jones and Alice Folkart joined us and we had a fun few hours talking poetry.

There's something about being in the presence of other poets that I find invigorating and inspiring. We had a wonderful discussion about inspiration versus concept, poetry workshops, travel-inspired poetry, our various pet poetry projects, etc.

It seems that I've met a lot more poets face-to-face in the last few months than I have in the past dozen years or so writing poetry.

I guess I'm just getting out more....
