Sidewalk poetry

The Long Beach Poetry Festival is coming up from April 2-8 in Long Beach, California. One of the events on Sunday, April 2 is a Sidewalk Chalk Art/Poetry contest. This caught my eye & oh, how I wish I had an artistic bone in my body (as far as drawing and painting)!

This event takes place on Second Street in Belmont Shore from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artists and poets compete for a "best of show" prize of $200.

IMO, this contest just begs for a haiga - the Japanese art of combining art with haiku. Is there a local chalk artist who wants to pair up with me and draw one of my haiku? One of my scifaiku? We could split the $200....

Contestants can sign up in front of Jamba Juice/Coffee Bean, 4925 E. Second St., between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Entry is free, as are all Festival events. Supplies are provided.
