Yes, I went back for more meat pies. What can I say? I love Sweeney Todd! My son clued me into this performance in the nick of time (pardon the pun), by the East West Players in Little Tokyo at the David Henry Hwang Theater. Tomorrow is closing night.
You would think that the five or six performances I saw at Loyola High School's Hannon Theatre in 2003 would have satisfied my bloodthirsty sense of humor, but when I heard it was playing in LA, I just had to go again.
I don't think I could ever tire of "A Little Priest." I just love that song. I loved it when Adrian & Jessica sang it in the high school production, I loved it with these actors in tonight's performance, and I loved it last summer at the Hollywood Bowl when Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou sang it again together for the Sondheim tribute concert (where my daughter & the Loyola High School Choir participated in a grand finale number with another dozen high school choirs & assorted celebrities).
I'd never been to the David Henry Hwang Theater before. It's a nice sized theatre - much smaller and more intimate than a big glitzy Hollywood Pantages Theatre but bigger than some of the tiny 40 seat artsy theatres in North Hollywood. I was hoping to see George Takei in Equus there in November, but I wasn't able to get tickets before the show ended.
