Egrets Reading

Name Recognition

Last night, I went to the Marie Lecrivain and Stephen Goldman poetry reading at Monday Night Poetry and I had something happen that has never happened to me outside of the haiku world before.

I had been looking forward to hearing Marie Lecrivain read and meeting her for the first time. She’s the editor of Poetic Diversity, which published my poem Testament. Since the only contact I had with her was the one submission (and maybe another rejected one), I was wondering if she’d remember me, so I was planning to go up afterwards and introduce myself.

During the open mic, I went up and read Binary Stars, my upcoming poem in Raven Electrick, which I gave a verbal plug, Birthday Present (scroll down on the link), Chaparral Song, a poem I wrote for the CFCP, Inc Contest, and three haiku. As I was introduced, Lecrivain asked, “What was your last name again?” I said, “Kolodji” and she smiled and said, “I like your work.” Then, she said, “Apex.” I looked back at her, and she said, “Abyss and Apex, I enjoyed your recent work there.”

Needless to say, this made my night!
