Egrets Reading

before we realize they are only snowflakes...

Just found out today, somewhat belatedly, that Candace McBride's artwork for my poem, before we realize they are only snowflakes... went up on her "Poesy Comics" personal website last November.

This poem was written for the "Magic" theme of the month I ran on the CinquainPoets list several months ago.

A couple years ago, Candace and I came up with the idea of running a monthly theme on the list to help stimulate everyone's creativity, which has worked, for the most part, to keep the list jumping with interesting cinquains to read. At the end of the month, the list members vote on their favorite cinquain, which is illustrated by Candace, appears on her website, and then is put on the CinquainPoets home page. Somehow, probably due to my holiday hustle and Dwarf Stars campaign, I didn't get the "Magic" theme artwork and the word that the poem artwork was online.

(We sometimes run a bit behind with the voting/artwork display part of the monthly theme.)

So, anyway, enjoy. This is one of the very few poems I've ever written about snow. Snow to me is more alien than Mars -- I can count the number of days in my entire life that I've seen snow physically falling from the sky on the fingers of ONE hand.

What can I say? I'm a California girl....
