A couple days ago I rented and watched The March of the Penguins with my son, Seán. I was truly dumbstruck at what these emperor penguins endure each year to reproduce. It seems like such a fragile life cycle…

Twenty-four years ago today, I gave birth to my first child, Kirk. Although, I was given jello and other extremely unappetizing food substances on a tray, and I could regale you all with true-life pregnancy horror-stories that could cause the faint-at-heart to take up celibacy, at least I didn’t have to hike seventy miles afterwards and fight off hungry predators for food….

…and he & his brother and sister were worth it.
