Egrets Reading

Sept/Oct Star*Line

Well, it's almost the end of October and I finally found some time to read through the latest Star*Line more carefully. Generally, when an issue arrives, I thumb through it and read all of the short poems (under 10 lines or so). If I have time, I'll go through it again and read everything that catches my eye. Then, I put it aside and read through it more carefully later.

I actually do this with all of my poetry journals. Does anyone else do this?

I also read all of the poems in issues of journals that contain both poems and stories long before I get around to going back for the stories.

Being that I've been collecting statistics on the line counts of published poems lately - here's the breakdown:

short short poems (less than 10 lines): 5
short poems (10-49 lines):10
long poems (50+ lines):2
total: 17

29.4% of the poems in the issue are less than 10 lines.

My favorite poem in this issue is "winter world" by Eric Marin. I'm a sucker for starfish, even their corpses.
