Egrets Reading

The Bone House

The Horror Writer's of America Newsletter has included my cinquain, "The Bone House", in a special Halloween verse section. If you're a member of the HWA, the link is:

If, like me, you're not, here it is:

The Bone House

So dark
this Halloween,
no pumpkins on the sill.
Rumor haunted, murder whispers...
old bones.

Deborah P Kolodji
HWA Newsletter, Volume 16, Issue 63, October 2005

The section includes "October 31th" by Catherine Mintz, "All Hallow's Eve" by Jacie Ragan, "bottling the halloween blues" by Jacie Ragan, "All Hallow's Eve: The Door" by Ree Young, "To A Small Spider" by Ree Young, "Unseen" by Ree Young, "The Horrors of Drink" by Marge Simon, "Jack O'Lantern" by Marge Simon, "Halloween Pie" by Michael A Arnzen, "Never November First" by Scott Urban, "Halloween Cinquain" by Scott Urban, "Samhain Shadows" by Ann K Schwader, in addition to my cinquain.

Although a few poems were weak, it makes for some great spooky holiday reading if you happen to be lucky enough to have access to the page. For those who don't, maybe you can find a HWA friend to print it out for you, or get out that pen and make that sale that will help you meet the membership criteria.

But back to my poem, believe it or not, "The Bone House" is actually based on a true story.
