The contest organizers note on their website that interest in Japanese-style poems has grown year by year, particularly in the Americas and Europe and express that they wish to spread the wave of writing poetry around the world and promote the distinctive Japanese styles of haiku, tanka, and senryu.
The contest deadline is December 31, 2006 (in hand). There will be one winner who will receive a round-trip ticket to Japan. No mention is made of accommodations and local transportation, so presumably the winner will need to take care of that on their own after booking the plane ticket.
The following types of poems may be submitted:
haiku (3 lines); senryu (3 lines); tanka (5 lines); short poems (up to 15 lines).
Each person may submit up to 5 entries. All entries must be unpublished and the original work of the person submitting the entry. Entrants must live in North America (Canada, Mexico, United States)
