Night of Ghosts

For Halloween Night, I thought I'd offer a ghost poem, originally published in Mythic Delirium:

Ghosts of Lake Bonneville

Grey shadows of footsteps on oolite sands
shifting shoreline defines that which remains
behind, of a great inland sea, of a man
fading between realms, his earthly gains
seized, forgotten; buried treasures he stole
as nude corpses shivered in the graveyard
hoarding rotted clothing, pawning off gold
until arrested, convicted, sentenced & barred
from life. Only green phytoplankton blooms
& circling sea gulls observed his fate,
his final hours in the lake which consumes
snow-tears of the mountains, never sated.
Migrating birds leaves cycles of silence.
His soul walks alone, forever banished.

This was written during my ghost phase, which also resulted in Ghost of the Palace Library, which I read for the SFPA Halloween Poetry Reading. If you haven't dropped by and listened to some of these poems yet, what are you waiting for?
