The Kukai Experience

kathleenwilson's enthusiasm can be contagious. On Saturday, she came to the Pacific Asia Museum for the Southern California Haiku Study Group workshop, which we do kukai style. It was her first time with us and ahe seems to have loved it, enthusiastically putting up a website about it.

There's something about a kukai that I find very useful in unblocking whatever obstacles I have for writing. Saturday's synergy between the autumn kigo list, the setting at the museum, and the energy of the other participants really unlocked the door to a productive session of haiku streaming.

It seems to have worked for Kathy, too, just look at at all the haiku she wrote in that 20 minutes we spent writing in the courtyard here on her website.

For those who weren't there with us, here are some sample October kigo to play with:

Saturn at first light, cowboy cologne, wasp galls, lobster boats, bobbing for apples

Here's a sample:

alone on the pier
a harbor filled
with lobster boats
